Breadcrumbs are a nice way of showing the users where they currently are on a webpage from a navigational point of view.
Benefits of breadcrumbs
The main advantages of breadcrumbs are that they are an easy way of navigating through a site. They give a nice overview and are clickable to get back to a higher position in the hierarchy easily. Also they are easy to implement.
Disadvantages of breadcrumbs
On the other hand, however, breadcrumbs can easily mess up a site and therefore they have to be used very carefully and only when there is a proper hierarchy.
