Information Architecture

Structuring the content in a proper outline.

Description

An information architecture is a structure that shows how the content of an e.g. website should be clustered so that the users know with a high change where they can find the content they are searching for.

A good Content Structure increases the User Experience

Often it is a good ideas to create an information architecture together with the end users in e.g. a focus group as they know best which contents they expect in which places in a system.

The navigation is part of the information architecture

Not only the clustering of the contents is part of the information architecture but also how these contents will be accessed can already be part of it. There are multiple possibilities like the main menu, the footer menu or only via a search field. How information will be accessed can therefore also be decided with the users during the creation of the information architecture.

Breadcrumbs

Breadcrumbs are a nice way of showing the users where they currently are on a webpage from a navigational point of view.
